(Why) (Lisboa)?

O Print Pause Lisbon grows from Lisbon's cultural scene:independent bookshops, small publishers, artist-run spaces, cultural centers, and a growing community of people working across publishing, journalism, arts and knowledge.

As a smaller European capital, Lisbon still keeps a rhythm that resists full acceleration.Distances are short, streets remain part of everyday life, and encounters often happen without being planned.Even as the city grows, changes, and gains visibility, something in its scale still makes room for pause.

The fair joins a wider constellation of independent publishing gatherings across Europe, adding to it from Lisbon's own context: a bright, active e welcoming citywhere printed projects can find new audiences, new conversations, and new relationships.

(The) (Venue): (A) (Home) (For) (The) (First) (Pause)

The first edition of Print Pause Lisboa will take place in Goethe-Institut, in Lisbon,a cultural space in the city center, deeply connected to artistic, educational, and international exchange.

Installed in a old palace, with a hidden garden that feels like a small oasis in Lisbon, it offers the perfect atmosphere for the fair’s first edition: open, welcoming, and discreetly sheltered from the city's busiest streets. Proof of this is that across the street, in a public garden, roosters and chickens wander around, reminding us that Lisbon still knows how to move at a different pace.

For three days, the auditorium, library, garden, and common areas of the Goethe-Institut in Lisbon will become a temporary home for independent publishing:a place for publications, conversations, workshops, exhibitions and informal gatherings around printed culture.

(Who) (Is) (Behind) (Print) (Pause) (Lisboa)?

Print Pause Lisboa was created by Gerador, an independent organization based in Lisbon working across journalism, cultural programming, and education. We see these fields as essential tools for a more critical, creative and participatory society.Since 2014, Gerador has published Revista Gerador,an independent biannual magazine. Each issue is built around a specific theme and visual identity, bringing together in-depth reports, essays, and original artistic contributions.

Beyond its editorial work, Gerador develops cultural initiatives, courses and international projects that create spaces for critical thinking and artistic experimentation. This fair is developed in partnership with Goethe-Institut in Lisbon, whose cultural work and openness to artistic, educational, and international exchange make it the natural home for this meeting.

Print Pause Lisboa was born from this shared context and a simple wish: to create a meeting point in Lisbon for people who still believe that publishing can be slow, experimental, beautiful, difficult, political, personal and collective.
