Unsubmissive Residences Generator: Thinking about Misinformation out loud

The Insubmissive Residences Gerador are a regular space at Casa Capitão, in Lisbon, to think out loud about the issues that affect societyEvery three months, we aim to spark open debates, encourage participation, and explore consequences by bringing together artists, experts, journalists, and the public to create and forge new paths, focusing on an urgent and ever-changing theme. Each residency will culminate in the publication of a digital zine showcasing the findings and providing clues to continue the conversation.

Following a first edition where we reflected on Palestine, the second residency will take place on January 9, 2026, starting at 20:30 PM and will focus on disinformation. Below you can find the full program for this day.

With a democracy already weakened by strong polarization and the spread of false narratives by political leaders, Slovakia is a worrying example of... consequences that the phenomenon of disinformation can have on a global scale.

Sofia Craveiro, a journalist from Gerador, presents the report she developed in recent months from the city of Bratislava, as part of the CLAD project – Citizens and Libraries Against Disinformation, funded by the European Union and coordinated by the Goethe-Institut. Through concrete situations, this journalistic work reveals how... false and misleading narratives They negatively influenced public opinion and accentuated social divisions, sometimes leading to... violence against communities and minority groups.

Throughout the residency, illustrator Beatriz Machado will create a visual report with her perspective on what is happening. The result of this attentive observation can be seen later in a... A digital zine that brings together all the reflections from this evening..

Beatriz Machado studied ceramics and sculpture. She stood out in the exhibition Jovens Criadores 2018, representing Portugal in the IX Bienal de Jovens Criadores da CPLP in 2019. She also participated in the XIV International Ceramics Biennial 2019 and in several group exhibitions since 2016. With a background in Illustration and Graphic Production, she received a Research Grant in 2022 and held the exhibition “Seeing Sounds, Drawing Migrations.” She is inspired by literature and poetry, both in ceramics and illustration.

Dima Mohammed is a Senior Researcher in Philosophy and Professor of Communication at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FCSH) at NOVA University Lisbon.His academic work focuses on argumentation, at the intersection of philosophy, language, and politics. Beyond academia, Dima is an active member of several collectives and cultural initiatives, including Frames of Palestine, Palestina em Portugês, and the Comitê Palestina, as well as a founding member of PUSP, a platform of Portuguese civil society collectives created to promote solidarity with Palestine.

Researcher and specialist in communication sciences José Moreno presents practical tools to help us identify and dismantle disinformation about the events in Gaza in particular and in Palestine in general: from biased titles, manipulated images or metrics to source verification.

José Moreno is a communications specialist with a career that combines journalism, digital media and academic research.He is a research assistant at CIES-Iscte – Center for Research and Studies in Sociology. He graduated in Social Communication from ISCSP-UTL (1988–1993), completed a Master's in Communication, Culture and Information Technologies at ISCTE-IUL (2012–2014), and between 2016 and 2019 was a doctoral candidate in Communication Sciences at ISCTE-IUL, developing the thesis project "From news to platforms: the transformative role of digital information and communication technologies in the network society".

Shahd Wadi is Palestinian, traveling between research, translation, writing, curation and artistic consultancy. She holds a master's and doctorate in Feminist Studies from the University of Coimbra. In her research addresses artistic narratives in the context of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and considers the arts a testimony of lives.

The night ends with DJ sets by Koho, between midnight and 2:00 AM, and by Hayden Nóbrega, between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM.

Pedro Nico, better known as Koho, is a DJ, drummer, and music producer. In 2020, he decided to venture out and take on the role of frontman, the same year he began exploring music production. Under the name Koho, his DJ sets encompass House, House Tech, UK Garage, and Big Beat.

Hayden Nóbrega is a self-taught artist, composer, singer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and DJ. He has worked with artists such as Papillon and Maria João, and was also part of the play "Bravo, 2023!" by the Teatro Praga company, with musical direction by Alex D'Alva Teixeira.

Amanda Baeza illustrates her vision of tonight

Amanda Baeza (1990) grew up in Valparaíso, Chile. A graduate in Design, she opened her eyes to the world with the zine Mr. Spoqui (2009-2013), a project created in partnership with her younger brothers. This universe later expanded into comics, with a collection of short visual poems compiled into the book "Bruma," published by Chili Com Carne in 2017. Over the years, she has collaborated with publishers such as Kuš!, Fulgencio Pimentel, and Lagon Revue. In the field of illustration, her work for El Limoreno was selected as one of the winners of the illustrators' exhibition at the 2025 Bologna Children's and Young Adult Book Fair. She currently lives and works in Portugal.
