AGORA

Setúbal

11-12.07

Within the context of MAPS - the Performing Arts Festival in Setúbal, the ÁGORA artistic intervention project will take over the city on July 11th and 12th. The event promotes collective debate about the organization and asymmetries of contemporary society, through multidisciplinary artistic moments that integrate performance, music, and visual arts with the community. Focusing on collective participation, the proposed initiatives combine art and collective dialogue. These include a Workshop on Protest Posters, a performance of Protest Readings based on the concerns of the area's inhabitants, the interactive installation Sound Wall, which highlights daily life in relation to sound, and a DJ set of beats, providing a backdrop for a moment of community gathering.

counterpass

Ermegeira, Torres Vedras

16-19.07

The 3rd edition of Contrapasso - Contemporary Philharmonic Festival takes place in Parque da Ermegeira, Torres Vedras, between July 16th and 19th. The event celebrates philharmonic bands alongside the promotion of community participation and the appreciation of artistic heritage, with a program that includes four original creations, premieres, workshops, and concerts. The main presentations were developed specifically in the context of the festival by ensembles such as União Filarmónica A-da-Gorda and Banda da Escola de Música Juventude de Mafra, who are accompanied by musical artists such as Stereossauro and Modo Vilão, in a crossover of artistic universes. Collaboration assumes a central position in the development of Contrapasso's artistic activity, reinforcing the importance of national philharmonic networks and new modes of experimentation and discovery.

Short Films Vila do Conde

Vila do Conde

17-26.07

The Vila do Conde Short Film Festival returns for its 34th edition in various venues throughout the city, with film screenings for all ages, the usual Competitive Sections, talks with filmmakers, and workshops.

Among the programming, the In Focus section highlights the works of Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof. The filmmakers' retrospective includes screenings of three of his feature films: "Iron Island" (2005), "A Man of Integrity" (2017), and "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" (2024).

The Expanded Cinema section stands out, promoting the fusion of cinematic art with performance, as does the Stereo section, focused on the dialogue between cinema and music. Opening the festival is a cine-concert developed from the work of experimental filmmaker Germaine Dulac, performed by Bruno Miguel and Nuno Canavarro.

Extreme Festival

Falperra, Braga and Guimarães

18.07

On July 18th, the Extremo Festival takes over Falperra, on the border between Braga and Guimarães, with a program that begins at sunrise and extends until the end of the day. The 2nd edition of the project includes concerts, performances, a conversation, a walk, installations, and workshops, starting at 06:00 AM with a performance by Calcutá at the Carmelite Seminary and culminating with a DJ set by Helviofox at 00:15 AM, next to the Cepela de Santa Marta do Leão. Between these two events, the public is invited to attend presentations such as the concert by Venezuelan artist Molero, the site-specific installation “Habitat” by Adriana Sá & John Klima, whose soundscape was developed using sounds from the Falperra territory, and the concert by Alessandro Cortini, former member of Nine Inch Nails.

Entry is free.

MANTA

Vila Flor Cultural Center

11-12.09

The gardens of the Vila Flor Cultural Center in Guimarães will once again host MANTA, a free music festival featuring concerts by artists from Catalonia, Brazil, South Africa, and Portugal. On September 11th and 12th, four concerts are scheduled, along with a DJ set curated by Oub'lá, and a workshop for families, "Together We Do Less Work," which encourages reflection on the intersection between singing and community life.

The musical program includes performances by Catalan artist Mar Pujol, Leo Middea, who arrives from Brazil to present his latest album "Notícias de Puglia", South African musician Bongeziwe Mabandla, with the presentation of the album "Ndingubani", and Portuguese singer-songwriter Milhanas.

Higher education: future or space of uncertainty?

For many young people, higher education remains the natural, almost obligatory, path to securing a better future. In this project, we seek to understand, through in-depth reporting and video testimonies, what is really at stake in higher education in Portugal. What is driving young people away? What makes them stay or leave? And, above all, what kind of country are we building when studying becomes a privilege or a risk?
