From the wheel to the weld

Guimarães

6-20.09

“From the Wheel to Welding” is a multidisciplinary project that combines ceramics and iron. It results from an investigation by the visual artist and producer of the project, Inês Mendes, based on the question: “Does craftsmanship intersect with contemporary art?”

The search for an answer to this question begins with visits to and documentation of artisans in northern Portugal who use ceramics and iron as the materials for their work.

This contact with and learning of traditional know-how allowed the artist to look at everyday handcrafted objects and reinterpret these pieces as a way to activate their stories and explore domestic space. The project also includes a video component, by Carolina Ribeiro, and features graphic design by Ana Leite.

Paradise

Circus Theatre, Braga

11-12.09

PARADISE is back in Braga for another edition dedicated to Afro-descendant and Lusophone artistic expressions. In 2026, the festival will focus on the theme "Past and Future in Afro-descendence" to look at the heritages we have received and the realities we are collectively building.

The program combines film, music, and dance with moments of debate and reflection on coloniality, anti-racist education in the arts, and practices of protest. There is also space for community celebration, cultural agents, and gastronomy.

PARADISE returns to occupy spaces such as the Theatro Circo, gnration and Livraria Centésima Página, bringing together creators, researchers and local and national organizations to continue creating space for listening, sharing and thinking about Afro-descendants.

In Sobreda by Tomé Silva

ZDB, Lisbon

12.09

Between voices, piano, and the sounds of Sobreda on a rainy day, Tomé Silva found the starting point for his debut album. Na Sobreda is a 12-song album about growing up, the doubts and fears that appear along the way, but also about the roots, people, and places that help us move forward.

Written, played, and produced by the musician from Almada, the album also features the participation of Maria Reis, Guilherme Rodrigues, Bruna de Moura, Moxila, Anaís, and Vasco Alves. Together, they construct a collection of songs that begins with questions and finds answers as the listener listens.

"Na Sobreda" is, fundamentally, an album about learning to trust time, not forgetting where we come from, and realizing who and what grows with us. One of those albums that, as Tomé Silva himself suggests, seems to grow a little more within us with each new listen.

There will be a launch concert on September 12th at ZDB in Lisbon.

Everyone is a stage

Portugal

17.09 - 17.10

Between September 17th and October 17th, the Amazon arrives on Portuguese stages through the fifth edition of Todos São Palco – Mostra de Teatro Além do Equador (Everyone is a Stage – Theatre Showcase Beyond the Equator). Created by Teatrão, a theatre company from Coimbra, the biennial festival uses this geographical, but also political, cultural and symbolic territory as a starting point to reflect on some of the most pressing issues of the present. Under the motto "Future Amazons", the program brings together 6 shows, five of them from the Amazon region, and artists from Brazil, Colombia and Peru.

Co-produced by 16 cultural institutions, 14 of which are integral parts of the Portuguese Theatre and Cinema-Theatre Network (RTCP), the productions will tour 13 cities, from Coimbra to Viana do Castelo, from Loulé to Porto, bringing different South American theatrical styles and identities to audiences across the country.

In addition to the performances, there are workshops, masterclasses, and talks dedicated to themes such as sustainability, identity, equality, and colonization processes. The program also intersects literature, dramaturgy, performance, and dance, inviting viewers to look at the Amazon beyond its territory and imagine its possible futures through the performing arts.

This edition also marks a name change: the former Todos São Palco – Mostra de Teatro Brasileiro (Everyone is a Stage – Brazilian Theatre Showcase) is now called Mostra de Teatro Além do Equador (Theatre Showcase Beyond the Equator), reflecting the geographical and artistic expansion of the project.

Higher education: future or space of uncertainty?

For many young people, higher education remains the natural, almost obligatory, path to securing a better future. Despite this, not all who choose this path find a reality that meets their expectations. In this project, we seek to understand, through in-depth reporting and video testimonies, what is really at stake in higher education in Portugal. What is driving young people away? What makes them stay or leave? And, above all, what kind of country are we building when studying becomes a privilege or a risk?

With government sponsorship, disinformation in Slovakia is affecting people, values, and institutions.

Attacks on journalists, discrediting of independent media, spread of misinformation, dismantling of cultural institutions. Disinformation in Slovakia is growing with the sponsorship of political leaders, who bring marginal narratives into the mainstream . With attacks and tailor-made legislative changes, the polarization of society is intensifying, harming democracy and pro-European sentiment.
